Rescuing Families Before They Enter the Foster System

Hi Friends!!

I have an exciting update for you this week!!

First, I want to say a huge thank you to all of our donors! At Rescue The Fosters, every dollar donated goes toward helping people in need. We do not receive grant funding, and we do not use your donations to pay ourselves a salary.

Rescue The Fosters was founded to help the vulnerable, and that includes victims of domestic violence. I personally believe that the struggles faced by domestic violence victims and foster children are often connected. A mother trying to escape an abusive situation can quickly find herself homeless with her children, creating circumstances that may increase the risk of child welfare involvement.

Like many people, I once believed Child Protective Services would always help victims of domestic violence. Unfortunately, families experiencing homelessness and domestic violence can also face child welfare investigations or the removal of their children, making an already devastating situation even more difficult.

That is why Rescue The Fosters steps in wherever we can.

This week, because of your generosity, we were able to help a mother and her three children stay off the streets.

It was an exhausting journey.

Our first goal was to find space in a shelter. Unfortunately, the shelters we contacted would not accept her because she had children over the age of 13. I was shocked to learn how many shelters have age restrictions for older children, leaving some families with very few safe options.

This is an issue that deserves more attention and, in my opinion, is a policy that should be reconsidered.

As if things weren't difficult enough, her vehicle began having one problem after another. Thankfully, we found a mechanic who was willing to drive an hour and a half to repair it. The cost of those repairs was covered entirely through your donations.

Then her tires failed, so thanks to your continued support, we were also able to purchase food and replace her tires.

Today, she and her children are in a safe place, and we are continuing to work with her as she takes the next steps toward stability.

We still need additional funds to help this family secure permanent housing. If you feel led to give, please know that your donation is making a real difference and helping a family build a new beginning.
