Hi Friends!
I have a federal lawsuit that you definitely want to follow.
This is McCord vs. Georgia Department of Human Services.
I have been following this case closely and advocating for the McCord family. The McCords' are a middle-class family who own their own business and adopted two children.
This case is completely different from the other cases I have advocated for in the past. Most of the families who reach out to me are biological families, not adoptive families. You can imagine my surprise when I received a call concerning an adoptive family whose adopted children had been removed from their home without cause.
What do I mean by "without cause"? There were no reports made to Child Protective Services alleging abuse or neglect.
I had never heard of such a thing. The Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) has to receive a report of abuse or neglect before taking a child, right?
This is where the case becomes even more unusual.
The children were not removed by DFCS. Instead, they were taken by a department created under Georgia Commissioner Candice Broce known as the Special Victims Unit within the Department of Human Services.
I didn't even know there was a Special Victims Unit until I met the McCord's. The McCord'
s didn't know about it either until their son was taken—and then their daughter.
I don't want to go into too much detail because I want you to read the lawsuit for yourself and draw your own conclusions from the facts presented.
What I can tell you is that this case raises important questions about government authority, due process, parental rights, and the protections afforded to adoptive families.
I will be covering this lawsuit and providing updates as the case progresses. I will also be posting responses and filings from both parties so that readers can stay informed and follow the case for themselves.
I encourage you to read the lawsuit, review the facts, and stay tuned for future updates.
God Bless,
Sylvia Beachy
Until next time... ❤️
